How it works

Feedback, then reward, then an optional review

Three clearly separate steps. The reward follows feedback — never a review.

1

Collect honest feedback

Every customer — happy or not — leaves a rating and optional comment. You hear the truth, privately, before it ever reaches a public page.

2

Deliver a reward you fund

Gift card, coupon, digital download, physical gift, or email-only. Delivered or queued after feedback — never conditioned on a positive rating.

3

Offer an optional review

A separate, skippable step with the same neutral wording for everyone. It carries no incentive — fully decoupled and unlinked.

1★ → same reward → same optional review invite as 5★. That is what "no gating" means.

Compliance built in

The safe design, enforced in code

These aren't promises in a policy doc. They're rules in our codebase, with tests.

✓

No review-solicitation gating

We never send only satisfied customers to a public review. Everyone sees the same optional invite.

✓

Reward never conditioned on sentiment

A 1★ customer is just as eligible as a 5★ one. No "review for a reward," ever.

✓

Reward and review are separate steps

Reward follows feedback completion. The review invite is a distinct, skippable step that doesn't affect eligibility.

✓

Per-marketplace rules

Amazon prohibits incentivized reviews — so we show the invite with no incentive linkage, and keep the reward tied to feedback, never a review.

✓

Feedback from everyone

We collect private feedback from all customers, not just unhappy ones — collecting only from the unhappy is itself a gating signal.

✓

Incentive disclosure stored

Where a reward sits alongside any review path, we record the consent and the disclosure copy shown, per FTC endorsement guidance.

Aligned with 16 CFR Part 465 (effective Oct 21, 2024) and current marketplace policies. This is general information, not legal advice.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is this allowed under FTC rules?

Yes — ScanThanks is built around the FTC Rule on fake and manipulated reviews (16 CFR Part 465). We never route only happy customers to a public review, and the reward is never conditioned on sentiment. Every customer sees the same optional review invitation regardless of their rating, and feedback is collected from everyone.

Do you give the rewards?

No. Any monetary reward is funded by you, the merchant. ScanThanks is the software that handles eligibility, fraud checks, budgets, and delivery. You choose the reward type per campaign: a physical gift, a gift card, a coupon code, a digital download, or email-only (no reward at all).

What about Amazon’s review policy?

Amazon prohibits incentivized reviews. We keep the feedback-reward and the review invite completely decoupled and unlinked, and we show marketplace-specific neutral wording. You can still collect feedback and offer a reward for the feedback; the review invite stays separate and carries no incentive.

How does a customer use it?

You print a QR code on a product insert card. The customer scans it with their phone, lands on a fast mobile funnel, leaves honest feedback, optionally claims the reward you funded, gives their email with consent, and may (optionally) choose to post a public review.

What do I need to get started?

A free account. Create a campaign, pick a marketplace and a reward type (or email-only), generate a QR code, and add it to your packaging. You can validate the whole flow on the free Starter plan before you pay anything.

Can I prevent abuse of the rewards?

Yes. We enforce one reward per order number, per-campaign email uniqueness, hashed-IP and per-link rate limiting, Turnstile bot protection, optional manual approval, and a per-campaign monthly reward budget that halts payouts (while still collecting feedback) when exhausted.
